Benefits of Dental Implants
Farmington, UT

One of the best and longest-lasting replacement options are dental implants. Through the use of dental implants, our team at Advanced Dental Specialty Group can provide you with a great new smile that looks and functions like your natural teeth.

Why Dental Implants?

Dental implants are one of several options available for complete dental restoration. The reason that implants are an increasingly popular and effective choice is that they offer many benefits when compared to dentures or bridges. Dentures can be obtained more quickly than dental implants, but do not look or function as naturally as implants. Dental bridges can only be used to cover gaps of adjacent teeth and cannot replace your entire smile as dental implants can.

In addition to functioning better than other types of restorations, dental implants last significantly longer than traditional dentures. Dental implants involve the installation of titanium posts directly into your jawbone. These posts will last for the rest of your life, whereas dentures must be repaired or replaced approximately every ten years.

The false teeth that are affixed to the titanium posts also last for a long time. According to WebMD, these can last anywhere from ten to twenty years. The longevity of your dental implants is dependent upon regular oral exams and good oral hygiene habits. In addition, if one of your false teeth needs to be replaced, our team can replace or repair just the damaged tooth without having to remove your entire set of teeth.

How Long Do Dental Implants Take?

The dental implant procedure is completed in several stages. During the initial consultation, our team will gather measurements of your mouth and take digital x-rays to determine if your jawbone is healthy enough to support dental implants. If it is, then they can schedule the installation of the titanium posts. If your jawbone is not strong enough, then our team will first have to complete a bone graft.

A bone graft is a procedure that involves grafting small bone fragments to your existing jawbone. Our team will utilize either synthetic bone material or material harvested from a cadaver for this procedure. Once the fragments have fused with your existing bone to form a solid structure, our team can proceed with the installation of the titanium posts. Complete fusion can take several months to a year, according to Healthline.

After the posts are installed, our team will allow several months for your mouth to heal before the final set of teeth can be installed. You will be given temporary teeth until your mouth is fully healed and ready for your final replacement teeth. Once your mouth has healed, our professional will install the teeth onto the titanium posts and ensure they are adjusted for maximum comfort and function.
